|HT|

Four terrorists have been neutralised in three separate overnight operations in Jammu Kashmir. Two terrorists of Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) were killed after an encounter broke out in the Chewaklan area of Pulwama, police said. One of them has been identified as Pakistani JeM commander Kamaal Bhai, who was active since 2018. Another terrorist linked to Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) was gunned down after an encounter broke out in the Serch area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal. Police said that the counterterrorism operation in the area is underway.

One LeT terrorist has been killed in an encounter in Nechama, Rajwar area of Handwara.

The Kashmir Zone Police tweeted from its official Twitter handle, "#Encounter has started at Nechama, Rajwar area of #Handwara. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow. @JmuKmrPolice."

Vijay Kumar, inspector general of police, Kashmir, said that security forces launched joint operations at four to five locations on Friday night which led to the killing of two JeM terrorists and two LeT terrorists. The security forces have also caught one terrorist alive. Encounters in Handwara and Pulwama are over. The encounters followed the killing of a sarpanch in the Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday. Terrorists fired upon Shabir Ahmad Mir, an Independent sarpanch, near his residence in Adoura at around 8.50pm. He was taken to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

Security forces have intensified counterterrorism operations in the Valley after targeted killings of civilians, particularly of Hindus and Sikhs, the religious minorities in the region.
