5 smugglers arrested at Delhi airport for smuggling gold worth Rs 2.6 crore



According to a statement released on Friday by the customs department, five individuals have been detained at this city's international airport for attempting to smuggle gold valued more than 2.6 crore.

The accused were taken into custody in two different instances that were booked at the IGI airport by customs officials.



In the first incident, the authorities detained four guys from Bangkok, two of whom had arrived on Tuesday and the others on Wednesday.

Four kilogrammes of gold—one kilogramme from each passenger—worth $2.09 crore was discovered after a thorough personal and baggage search of the passengers, according to the statement. The suspects were detained and the gold was seized.
