Indian documentary ‘Writing With Fire’ has been nominated at the 94th edition of the Academy Awards under the Best Documentary Feature category. Tracee Ellis Ross and Leslie Jordan have announced the nominations on Tuesday evening.

The official Twitter page of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences played an important part as nominations were announced live on the page. The story of ‘Writing With Fire’, which is directed by Rintu Thomas and Sushmit Ghosh, revolves around the rise of Khabar Lahariya (India’s only newspaper run by Dalit women).

The film is based on a group of Dalit wonder women, who are very ambitious, led by Meera, their chief reporter. Meera is a dedicated journalist and led the team when it switches from print to digital so that they all can stay relevant. In a cluttered news landscape dominated by mem, Meera and her journalists break tradition and emerge as the powerful team.

Apart from ‘Writing With Fire’, ‘Ascension’, ‘Attica’, ‘Flee’, and ‘Summer of Soul ( Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised)’ are also nominated. The final awards ceremony will be held on March 27, 2022.
