Virat Kohli provided a crucial update on India's forthcoming tour of South Africa amid the Omicron scare on Thursday. Indian cricketer Virat Kohli informed that discussions regarding Covid-19, which was identified in South Africa, have begun. This has cast a shadow over the team's tour of the country.

"Rahul bhai has initiated a conversation within the group which is very important to know because at the end of the day we understand our focus on the Test match will not shift regardless but also to know you want to have clarity in a situation to know what exactly is going on," Kohli said on the eve of the second Test between India and New Zealand starting in Mumbai on Friday.

There are many factors that have led to doubts surrounding the tour. It remains to be seen whether the Indian team will stick to its schedule after India bans international flights until December 15. Three Tests, three ODIs, and four Twenty20 matches will be played over a month starting on December 17 until January 26. Earlier this week, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly said the tour is still going, but a final decision will be made upon the government's approval.

It is pretty natural, we are not playing in normal times, so there is a lot of planning, a lot of preparation, in understanding exactly what will take place."

On Thursday, multiple news agencies reported that the BCCI met and decided that the tour would be delayed by a week. India's selectors had originally planned to name their team for the South Africa tour this week, but those plans have also been put on hold, according to reports.
