Neeraj Chopra congratulates Pakistan's Arshad for winning gold in javelin throw in CWG

Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem and India's golden boy Neeraj Chopra have crossed paths on many occasions but share a healthy bond outside the field. So when the Pakistan athlete scripted history at the Commonwealth Games 2022, a reaction from Neeraj was obvious and so was the case. The Tokyo Olympic gold medallist congratulated Nadeem for winning the gold in men's javelin finals in Birmingham, where he also crossed the 90m mark, a target which Neeraj is chasing.

"Congratulations Arshad bhai for Gold medal and crossing 90m with a new games record. Aage ke competitions ke liye all the best," Neeraj commented on Nadeem's Instagram post, which was the highlight of his monstrous throw in the final at Birmingham.

Neeraj's gesture didn't take long to go viral on social media, and industrialist Anand Mahindra was among the many fans who hailed the Indian for his show of appreciation. “This is how the world should be A Gold medal to both of them for demonstrating the difference between competitiveness and enmity. #NeerajChopra #ArshadNadeem,” he tweeted.

Nadeem's efforts delivered Pakistan it's maiden gold medal in men's javelin at the Commonwealth Games. The athlete, who looked a bit in discomfort while the event was on, recorded 90.18m to win the gold medal. Nadeem's effort also saw him defeat World Championship gold medalist Grenada’s Anderson Peters, who claimed a silver with the best attempt of 88.64m.

Neeraj, who holds the national record for India in men's javelin, best attempt is recorded at 89.94m, which he achieved at Stockholm Diamond League earlier this year. An injury forced Neeraj to withdraw from the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. He had won a gold in men's javelin in the previous edition held in Gold Coast, Australia in 2018.
