New Delhi's Vasant Vihar Air India residents allege being forced to vacate

New Delhi : Residents of Vasant Vihar's Air India Colony allege they are being forced to vacate the premises and security and maintenance staff have been removed.

The residents allege that lifts have become non-operational and water supply is being hindered, all in hope of vacation by residents by Tata Group.

Tata Group bough Air India after disinvestment by the government of India. Regarding the matter, Civil aviation ministry wrote a letter to Air India last year that said, "Appropriate binding legal and other arrangements, including financial disincentives, should be formulated to enable prompt vacation of the properties by the employees".

Similar situation is in Mumbai's Kalina Air India colony which is occupied by 2000 residents. Bombay High Court granted interim relief to 565 residents who approached the court ordering stay in vacation till October 28.

The residents in Delhi's Vasant Vihar protested outside the colony on Tuesday, after which the police arrived. They protest indirect hindrances to the residents in an attempt of vacation of premises.
