Despite having the best-attacking attack in the world, Paris Saint-Germain lost 0-0 to Nice in the French league on Wednesday. That marked the first time this season that the French champions have dropped points at home.

A low strike from Kylian Mbappe in the 27th minute was parried by Nice goalkeeper Walter Benitez, and an Angel di Maria shot was blocked in the 51st minute. While Gianluigi Donnarumma was less busy, he still had to push away Andy Delort's close-range header early in the 32nd to help keep PSG 12 points clear at the top.

On an eight-game winning streak, the French champions had won all of their previous home games in the current season. Defenseman Lionel Nice was extremely satisfied with the performance of his team. We wanted to attack more, we wanted to control the ball more when we had it. But I think that the whole team made a lot of effort. We had to rediscover that."Before kickoff, Messi presented the spectators with the record seventh Ballon d'Or trophy he won Monday. The team lacked presence in the box without his injured attacker Neymar, with Mbappe often operating on the left-wing without the Brazilian.

With a header from two yards, Kasper Dolberg failed to score for Nice in the 59th minute.

After Messi slipped a through ball to Mbappe, the youngster failed to hit the target from 10 yards in the 64th minute.

Marseille moved into second place with a 1-0 win over Nantes after Brazilian midfielder Gerson controlled a pass from Dimitri Payet and scored. The 32nd minute ended with Nicolas Pallois being shown a second yellow card.

Following a 2-1 loss to Lille, Rennes dropped to third place. First-half goals from Renato Sanches and Xeka gave Lille the lead. The 85th minute ended with Rennes midfielder Benjamin Bourigeaud scoring.
