Watch : 174 killed, 180 hospitalised in a riot at a football match in Indonesia



Football club Persebaya Surabaya was playing Arema and won 3-2. Thousand of angry Arema fans took to the pitch after their team lost. The stampede started when the police fired tear gas into the crowd.




More than 300 people were rushed to hospitals while many died Enroute. FIFA regulations state that crowd control gas or tear gas is not to be used on the crowd under any condition. Indonesia's football league has been suspended for a week while Arema has been banned from hosting a match for the rest of the season. The stadium had a capacity of 38,000 while 42,000 tickets were sold. Further sanctions might follow.
