Why is the central government trying to get Delhites to buy booze from Haryana

|The Den|

After a protracted discussion about corruption between the Center and the AAP government, the national capital Delhi reintroduced its former liquor policy on Thursday. With this, over 300 Delhi government vends will replace almost 250 private booze stores from September 1. Private licensees were already informed by the Excise department that they would not be permitted to continue selling retail alcoholic beverages after August 31. With Delhi returning back to the old excise policy regime, the city will also see the promotion of draught beer.

The excise department has also issued licenses to three to four microbreweries that will start working from the first week of September. Also, a mobile app mAbkaridelhi developed by the Excise department will become operational in September which will provide information to consumers about the location of liquor stores in their neighborhood and shop timings. Moreover, with the old policy returning back prices will also go back up as discounts are not permitted.
