An Anonymous Interview of a Kashmiri Muslim

|THE DEN|

That’s just one man’s opinion though!

What is Kashmir today ? A place where people are struggling hard for a better life.

How ? People are educated but still unemployed due to the lack of opportunities. Moreover, Kashmiris are completely dependent on the tourism sector but curfews, lockdowns and politics do enough to make that difficult too. Over and above Muslim traders are being asked to be banned and gradually tourism is also declining. And there is no need to mention about frequent wars & attacks in Kashmir.

Do people still identify themselves as pandits or muslims ? Or Kashmiris ? Or Indians ? And is the latter possible in the near future ?

That depends on one’s ideology though, some call themselves Indian while some Pakistani and some call themselves Koshur which is Kashmiri in native language.

What has changed after the revocation of article 370 ? Nothing has changed after article 370 being revoked, just other people than Kashmiri can buy property in Kashmir now that too only rich ones.

Tell us your POV over Kashmiri Pandits exodus. It should not have happened of course. However, I know Muslim exterimists had a great role in exodus but Governor Jagmohan was also equally included.

Was it political or was it actual ?

I believe it was a political gimmick and also sort of a revenge for Muslim exterimists considering the Jammu Massacre when over 2 lakh muslims were killed by Hindu & Sikh exterimists in Jammu and others driven away to west Punjab (Which is located in Pakistan now) way back in 1947 after the partition of India.

How can the Kashmir situation be improved ?

Transparent media or unbiased media can improve the condition and help Kashmir to be a paradise again in terms of living.
