CCTV cameras in buses, measures to ensure safety of women and transgenders: Calcutta HC

The Calcutta High Court on Friday issued bundle of measures to secure safety of women and transgender people in public transport system, containing installation of CCTV cameras in every bus of the state. The division bench of justice also proposed displaying helpline numbers as transgender-specific helpline in all buses and at bus stands as well. Justice Arijit Banerjee, said that the mindset of a segment of society needs to be changed towards women and transgenders and it must be initiated from school level. Hearing of the PIL will come up again on August 12.
