Delhi to report nearly 10,000 Covid Infections today, said Satyendar Jain

Delhi likely to report nearly 10,000 COVID Infections today, said Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain. Positivity Rate Climbs to 10%. On Tuesday the Delhi government imposed a weekend curfew in the national capital after a meeting with the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA). The decision came a week after the restrictions under the Yellow alert (Level 1) of the Covid Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). The weekend curfew order by the DDMA has rekindled speculation of lockdown returning to the national capital. As per the Covid-19 bulletin on January 4, nearly 5,500 new cases were registered in Delhi and three deaths were reported. The positivity rate jumped to a worrying 8.37%.

The surge in the Covid cases and the positivity rate indicated a repeat of the chain of events of 2021. The only relief for Delhiites is that neither the hospitalisation rate has increased in Delhi nor the death toll.

Meanwhile, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain ruled out the possibility of a complete lockdown in the national capital. He emphasised that a weekend curfew should not be as harsh as a "complete lockdown" and that the new curbs were imposed considering the interests of the working class.
