India's aviation industry is the one that is expanding the fastest globally, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared on Sunday as he lay the cornerstone for the nation's first private aircraft production facility in Vadodara, Gujarat. He added in his address, "In terms of aviation traffic, we are set to attain the top three global rankings soon. The aerospace and defence industries will be two crucial pillars in helping India become self-sufficient, PM Modi added while reiterating that "we have a goal of exceeding $25 billion in military manufacturing by 2025. In addition, our defence exports would exceed $5 billion.

The prime minister added, in reference to the Tata-Airbus project in Vadodara, Gujarat, which is seen as a key step in the government's push toward self-reliance: "This is the first time that such a significant investment has been made in the defence aerospace industry. Not only would the Air Force benefit greatly from this Vadodara manufacturing facility, but it would also contribute to the development of an ecosystem for the production of aircraft. Around 22,000 crore is thought to be the project's overall cost.
