Shiksha Dev |THE DEN|

There is a four-point package containing a line of credit to cover imports of food and medicines, a currency swap agreement, and other measures to enhance economic cooperation and assist the island nation. During the visit of Sri Lankan finance minister Basil Rajapaksa to India on Wednesday and Thursday, he met with Indian counterpart Nirmala Sitharaman and external affairs minister S Jaishankar to finalize the package.

It was Rajapaksa's first overseas trip since assuming office in July.

Sri Lanka's high commission said President Rajapaksa and his counterpart discussed four pillars of short and medium-term cooperation during his visit.

There will be an urgent request for an extension of India's line of credit to cover Sri Lanka's importation of food, medicines, and other essential items, and an urgent call for an extension of India's line of credit to cover its importation of fuel and the early modernization of Trincomalee Tank Farm.
