The NITI Aayog has declared holy city of Haridwar in Uttarakhand as the best aspirational district on five parameters, thereby providing an additional allocation of three crore rupees.

The letter by NITI Aayog's Aspirational Districts Programme director Rakesh Ranjan to Uttarakhand chief secretary SS Sandhu and the district collector of Haridwar underlines that the district has secured first rank in basic infrastructure theme and has become entitled to receive additional allocation of ₹3 crore.

“The Haridwar district has been allocated to union commerce and industries minister Piyush Goyal who has been taking active interest in making it the No. 1 aspirational district in the country. Since we have become the numero uno district, we have been awarded ₹3 crore for further development on five parameters under the aspirational districts programme,” Vinay Shankar Pandey, district collector, Haridwar said.

“One parameter we were lagging behind in aspirational districts is the health sector. We will use the allocated money to improve the health sector including the sub district hospitals in Roorkee and district hospital Haridwar,” Pandey added.

As per the aspirational districts scheme norms, the districts are supposed to prepare a plan of action in consultation with the state and central Prabhari Officers and send the same to NITI Aayog for final approval of the Empowered Committee of Secretaries constituted for the programme, the letter stated.

The NITI Aayog programme director has congratulated the district and central Prabhari Officers of Haridwar district and also requested the chief secretary to issue a good service entry to the collector.
