Oath ceremony of President Murmu watershed moment for India's poor, says Pm Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said the entire nation watched with pride as Droupadi Murmu took oath as the President of India, calling it a watershed moment for the country's poor, marginalised and downtrodden. Taking to Twitter, the PM said Murmu's first address as President was about giving a message of hope and compassion. “She emphasised on India's accomplishments and presented a futuristic vision of the path ahead at a time when India is marking Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.” “The entire nation watched with pride as Smt. Droupadi Murmu Ji took oath as the President of India. Her assuming the Presidency is a watershed moment for India especially for the poor, marginalised and downtrodden. I wish her the very best for a fruitful Presidential tenure,” she further wrote.

Murmu was sworn-in as the country's 15th President by Chief Justice of India NV Ramana at the Central Hall of Parliament. The grand ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister, Rajya Sabha chairman M Venkaiah Naidu, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, members of the council of ministers, governors, chief ministers, heads of diplomatic missions, members of Parliament and civil and military officers. With this, she became the first tribal leader to hold the top constitutional post and second woman President of the country.
