Twitter marks AAP MP Sanjay Singh's tweet as 'out of context' & misleading

Twitter has marked as 'out of context' and misleading the video shared by Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh - that shows prime minister Narendra Modi 'ignoring' outgoing president Ram Nath Kovind at a function on Saturday. Singh's tweet, which has been retweeted over 3,000 times as of Monday morning, has been marked 'This media is presented out of context' by Twitter, after it emerged that in the original video the prime minister is seen looking at the president and greeting him; the edited 14-second video omits that part. "On July 23, 2022, a farewell event was organized in Parliament to commemorate the end of President Ramnath Kovind's tenure. A short clip from the event is being shared with misleading claims, according to fact-checkers," Twitter warned. The video ignited a furious exchange between the AAP and the Bharatiya Janata Party, which are already at loggerheads over a number of issues, including most recently Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal denied permission by Delhi lieutenant governor Vinai Kumar Saxena to make an official visit to Singapore. Saxena, appointed by the centre, also recommended a Central Bureau of Investigation probe against deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia.

For the BJP, IT cell chief Amit Malviya hit out against Sanjay Singh and the video. "Fake news peddler Sanjay Singh at it again. Those (from Kejriwal to Sisodia) whose lies are caught everyday, and those who have a habit of getting humiliated, how can people like them know how to give respect to others."

The edited video shared by Singh shows the outgoing president greeting the prime minister, but he is looking away. "Such an insult, Very Sorry sir (the outgoing president). But this is how these people are, your term is over. So, they will not even look at you," Singh said.

The longer video - also shared online - shows the prime minister greeting the president, with union minister Piyush Goyal also greeting Ram Nath Kovind.
